The Future of the Milwaukee Bucks

The Already Successful Milwaukee Bucks

By: The Halftime Buzz, (@halftimebuzz)

Before this season's sudden postponement due to Covid-19, the Milwaukee Bucks were on a roll. The Bucks posted the best record in the NBA, going 53-12 overall and 28-3 at home this year. This was in large part due to their superstar PF, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and his stellar play on the defensive side. But, to say that Antetokounmpo is the only reason the team was this successful would be blatantly incorrect. Actually, Milwaukee has loads of talent on their roster that efficiently complements Antetokounpo's prowess. First and foremost, Khris Middleton has been the Robin to Antetokounmpo's Batman for the past five and a half seasons, and has been named an all-star in consecutive seasons. Furthermore, Brook Lopez has also been a pleasant boost to this forceful Bucks roster. Lopez is a formidable presence in the paint that can also stretch out opposing defenses with his shooting touch. Additionally, Eric Bledsoe has played a strong role as the starting PG and has truly been a phenomenal piece alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. Along with these terrific players, the Bucks have great depth and always have the ability to substitute highly skillful players in at any stage of a game. Composed of these exceptionally talented players, the Bucks were undoubtedly a top 5 defense in the NBA by almost every advanced metric there is. Overall, Milwaukee has a very well-rounded team that has little to no weaknesses on the court.
With all this success, shouldn't the Bucks flourish for years to come? Well, not exactly. Their superstar 25-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2021. Yes, this is still a year away but Bucks fans are already worrying about bigger-market teams swaying Antetokounmpo's decision in 2021. While many teams may have a strong case for Antetokounmpo to sign with them, the Bucks also boast a compelling argument.

Why Giannis Should Re-sign with the Bucks in 2021

Much debate abounds as Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee Bucks readies himself to hit the open market. Some speculate that the Greek Freak will pounce on the opportunity to play elsewhere, while others dismiss this possibility. Today, I weigh in on the matter and propose why a return to the Cream City is best suited for the reigning MVP.

(1) With Bucks in contention for the NBA title, Giannis Antetokounmpo can build on his legacy by simply staying put.
(2) It would be inconvenient for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who recently celebrated the birth of his first child, to relocate.
(3) Loyalty is closely linked to legacy.
(4) The Bucks are the NBA's only club capable of offering the Greek Freak a $250M 'Supermax' contract.
(5) It is possible that Giannis Antetokounmpo feels  indebted to the Bucks, who contributed to his stardom.
(6) The Bucks demonstrated loyalty to Giannis Antetokounmpo by acquiring his brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo

Indeed, the Greak Freak commands the interest of several brand-name franchises, such as the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors, but the Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as the clear front-runner for his services.
