Return of The NBA?
The Lost Season
It has been a rough two months for NBA fans, as the league was brought to a screeching halt on May 11, 2020. After the first NBA player, Rudy Gobert, was formally diagnosed with COVID-19, the season was put on hold until further notice. Ironically, just days before being diagnosed with the virus, Gobert made sure to rub his hands all over the media microphones to simply show his immaturity in regards to understanding the seriousness of the virus. He later made an apology to fans, media, and the NBA, however, that scene will be one associated with his name for the remainder of time.
The Return?
In order to protect players, staff, and fans the NBA has temporarily suspended the 2019-2020 NBA season. There have been rumors that the NBA plans on resuming the season at a later date, that may provide fans with a summer filled with playoff basketball. However, we are assuming that a re-worked, unique playoff system would be incorporated to make up for lost time and potential changes in playoff seeding.
However, the most eye-opening information that we have received from the NBA so far was released yesterday, on May 13th. The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, revealed to the Board of Governors that he is aiming for a 2-4 week timetable as to a decision regarding the resumption of this years highly anticipated NBA season.
We are all hoping that the NBA can play a large role in the return of at least one of the four major sports in the United States. We have already seen a return of UFC and this weekend European Soccer will be making a return as well. The UFC fights have been seeing unimaginable amounts of positive feedback regarding their safety policies during the fights as well as their ability to successfully hold a live sporting event. The hashtag #UFC249 was trending on Twitter during its live airing of the fights, especially during the main bout including Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Given the positive feedback and success Dana White, and the whole UFC organization, saw with bringing back live sports, we are hoping to see a return of the NBA sometime in the foreseeable future.
Adam Silver, the ball is in your court.
