The Reinvented Carolina Panthers

Teddy Bridgewater

In the offseason, the Carolina Panthers made a monumental move in the signing of QB Teddy Bridgewater after releasing former MVP QB, Cam Newton. Bridgewater has had an up-and-down career since being drafted in 2014, mainly stamped by his horrifying ACL injury in 2015. But, Bridgewater has since rescued his career and went 5-0 in 2019 with the Saints as a replacement when Drew Brees was injured. He put up stellar numbers during his starting opportunity in New Orleans, with a total of 9 passing TDs and about 1400 passing yards. Bridgewater will bring a winning mentality and an impressive work ethic to a Carolina Panthers team that went 5-11 last season.

2020 NFL Draft

With a great offensive core in Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, and now Teddy Bridgewater, the Panthers were entering the draft focused on improving their defense. And that's exactly what they did. With the 7th overall pick in the draft, the Panthers selected DT Derrick Brown. Brown posted monstrous numbers during his years at Auburn and his sheer size can pose as a serious threat for opposing offensive lines. The Panthers then went on to draft highly-touted DE Yetur Gross-Matos out of Penn State. These two selections will soon form into a dynamic defensive line that can fix the Carolina Panthers' incapacity of stopping the run last season. The Panthers finished off the draft by selecting two safeties, two cornerbacks, and a defensive tackle. This further emphasizes the Panthers' priority of bolstering their defense, as they were the first team in the common draft era to use all seven picks on defensive players.

Matt Rhule

In Matt Rhule, the Panthers are getting a true program builder. From taking over a 4-7 Temple team in 2013 and leading them to two 10-win seasons and an AAC championship win within 4 years. Rhule then took over a Baylor team that was rocked by a scandal in 2017 and had them competing for a playoff spot within 3 years. Matt Rhule is also a good talent evaluator. According to analysts, the Panthers had one of the better drafts in the league and Panthers fans are very satisfied with how this year's draft played out compared to prior drafts, Matt Rhule had a big hand in this. Rhule also brought in a solid coaching staff around him, highlighted by offensive guru Joe Brady who helped turnaround LSU’s offense to one of the best in college football history. The Panthers' future is looking bright with Matt Rhule at the helm.
